Welcome To The DidgeriDude

The Didgeridude on MySpace

The didgeridoo is a traditional Australian aboriginal instrument that consists of a long cylindrical tube that is played by "blowing" in a similar way that a trumpet or other brass instrument is played. The didgeridoo is a drone instrument and only plays one key. Color is added to the sound by changing the shape of the mouth to alter the relative strength of the harmonics much the same way we form vowel sounds.

Didgeridoo’s are traditionally made of a termite hollowed out log of a eucalyptus tree, although there are a variety of novel, and more modern, materials used to create these instruments today.

I started playing the didge when my friend Roger handed me one and I was able to make the drone sound. At that point I was hooked and spent the next few months playing at any chance I could. I should mention that playing the didge (even badly!) is a strangely satisfying experience; at least for the player.  I am not sure my efforts were always welcome by my friends and family. I have been playing now since 1998 and I am amazed at the range of sounds that can be produced by the instrument.

I now play the Slide Didge which allows you to change the pitch of the sound buy sliding or changing the length of the instrument. This makes the instrument much more musically flexible and can be played along with other instruments. I now play with a four person band "The Party Guise". If you haven’t heard our unique sound you can give us a listen at:

I don't claim to be "Thee" Didgeridude, just a Didgeridoo playing Dude.
